On Thursday, Colombia secured their spot in the knockout stage of the Women’s World Cup and advanced to Round 16, even after losing 1-0 against a Moroccan team that continues to make history in the tournament.
This is only the second time in their history that the Colombian women’s team has reached Round 16 in a World Cup. The Colombian team topped their group, and will now face Jamaica in Round 16. Jamaica eliminated one of the tournament favorites, Brazil. Colombia finished at the top of Group H despite the 1-0 defeat against Morocco in the final match.
If they manage to defeat Jamaica at AAMI Park in Melbourne, the Colombian team will face the winner of the match between England, another tournament favorite, and Nigeria.
This marks the third time that the Colombia women’s team has participated in a Women’s World Cup.
