The International Gastronomic Center, Muelle 1888, in Puerto Colombia, is set to open to the public in August 2024. During a marathon inspection tour of the project, the governor of Atlántico, Eduardo Verano, highlighted the progress of this project aimed at boosting tourism. The center is part of the larger Malecón del Mar project.

The governor stated that final touches are being made to the infrastructure. The project is progressing at a good pace in the marketing phase of the premises that will handle the gastronomic offerings.

Puerta de Oro is the entity responsible for managing and leading the negotiation process with individuals interested in acquiring space to commercialize their goods and services at Muelle 1888. So far, the Center will offer German cuisine; Italian-Mediterranean cuisine; a café and pastry shop; a Mexican restaurant; an obleas outlet; a beachwear boutique; a slushy stand, and an Italian food outlet.

Likewise, on the second floor, there will be a gastro bar combined with a nightclub area.

Out of the 17 premises in this space, 8 are already sold, signed, and undergoing internal adjustments to operate, 5 are in negotiations, 3 are ready to sign contracts, and the rest are awaiting offers.

Tour by the governor

“In Puerto Colombia, tourists will be able to come and enjoy not only the pier, the sea, and all its surroundings, but also a gastronomic offering of a very high standard that includes the International Gastronomic Center Muelle 1888 and Mercado Sazón Atlántico, respectively,” Verano stated.

He indicated that these new spaces will attract many people and will be, from a tourist point of view, among the most attractive sites in the department.

During the tour, the governor recalled that for the vision and execution of the macro project, several lots were purchased which would later become the Plaza de Puerto Colombia, the International Gastronomic Center, and the Mercado Sazón Atlántico.

“We imagined this to be the great tourist transformation of Puerto Colombia. It is a complete package that includes the restoration of the pier, the square, the Gastronomic Center, and the Mercado Sazón,” he noted.

It is worth noting that the International Gastronomic Center, which had an investment of $20 billion COP, includes two levels and a mezzanine, spacious areas for premises and commercial islands, terraces, administrative and service areas, in an architecture open to the sea that will serve local, national, and international tourism. German, Italian, Mexican, and other cultural cuisines will be highlighted within the gastronomic offering.

Mercado Sazón Atlántico

Regarding the Mercado Sazón Atlántico, the governor noted that the project is progressing at a good pace with 70% completion. Final details are being made and only window fixtures, lamp supplies, and flooring are awaited. According to the information received, the project should be ready by June of this year.
