El City Lover offers a fun ghost walking tour every weekend, among others. Visit the large mansions built in El Prado at the turn of the 20th century and soak up the ghost stories. A chartered bus takes you to all the locations so you don’t have to worry about having a designated driver and you get a lovely chuzo meal at the end to soak up all the beer.
15. Take a riverboat tour on the Ríobus
Barranquilla recently launched a riverboat known as the Ríobus Karakalí. For the moment the Ríobus only has two stops: the Gran Malecón and the Intendencia Fluvial, with more piers to be added in the future. The Ríobus will be free to ride until the first holiday weekend in January. After this time, the fare will be $6,000 COP per person. Boat tours will be three times per day, with additional trips on weekends.
16. Visit the new bronze Shakira statue on the Gran Malecón
A 6.2-meter-high bronze statue of Shakira was inaugurated on the Gran Malecón at the end of December 2023. Shakira was born and raised in Barranquilla and the mayor’s office commissioned this statue in commemoration of her global success. The statue is located on the third phase of the Gran Malecón.
17. Barranquilla es Río: Set sail the last Saturday of every month
Barranquilla es Río is a new initiative set by the Alcaldía to promote more river tourism.
