The Ventana de Sueños megaproject, which is being donated by the company Tecnoglass, pays tribute to migrants. This monument is a part of the larger Malecón de Mar project which is currently under construction.

‘La Ventana de Sueños’, or the “Window of Dreams”, a marvelous project being constructed by Tecnoglass in Puerto Colombia as a tribute to migrants and set to become the tallest lighthouse in the Americas, is progressing at a good pace.

The giant structure is being built piece by piece, with each one being installed by hand.

In mid-July, the glass specially made at the Tecnoglass plant in Barranquilla will begin to be installed, marking this as a tremendously delicate stage. Eventually, the lighthouse’s light will be installed atop the structure.

Before its inauguration, a contest will be held to name this monumental window, which, according to Christian Daes, COO of Tecnoglass, is “the most beautiful of the three sisters,” referring to the ‘La Ventana al Mundo’ and the ‘La Ventana de Campeones,’ symbols of Barranquilla, which were also donated by Tecnoglass.

Ventana de Sueños – Technical Information

For the installation of the foundation, 1,680 square meters of micropiles with a diameter of 20 centimeters and a length of 18 meters are being installed. A total of 56 piles will be installed. It will have 157.78 cubic meters of structural concrete and 38 tons of structural steel.

In terms of urban development, the project includes 27.92 cubic meters of structural concrete, 1.72 tons of steel, 1,095 square meters of stamped concrete for hard areas, and 732 square meters of green areas with synthetic grass and tree planting.

The construction process involves 80 tons of scaffolding, over 150 people directly working on the project, and a 200-ton PH crane for the installation of the structure.

The projected height of the project is 65 meters, and the weight of the steel structure will be 105 tons of hot-dip galvanized steel.

The aluminum facade weighs 25 tons and consists of 1,940 square meters of laminated and toughened glass with specially formulated ‘custom’ color serigraphy for the monument.

The lighthouse’s light will have a range of 20 nautical miles and will operate on an autonomous photovoltaic energy system. Over 20,000 stainless steel screws will be used to secure and anchor the glass panels.

‘La Ventana de Sueños’ will be the tallest lighthouse in the Americas.
