Barranquilla is the host for the First Annual Women’s Amputee Football World Cup, taking place from November 2 to 11, 2024. Twelve countries, divided into three groups, have confirmed their participation in the tournament.

As the host country, Colombia has assembled a team aiming to reach the top positions in the tournament, which will be held at Romelio Martínez Stadium, the Naval Base field, and the Biffi La Salle school, following selection by the World Amputee Football Association to host these matches. The opening match will take place on Monday, November 4th at 9:30am, Ecuador v. Ukraine.

The opening ceremony, as well as the semifinals and closing ceremony, will take place at Romelio Martínez Stadium, as announced by Édgar Blanco, president of the Colombian Amputee Federation.

Teams from Colombia, Haiti, Ukraine, Brazil, Peru, Kenya, the United States, Cameroon, England, Ecuador, Poland, and Nigeria will be participating.

These countries were divided into three groups in a drawing held in Barranquilla at the end of September.

Group A includes: Colombia, Brazil, Poland, and Cameroon.

Group B consists of: Peru, Haiti, England, and Kenya.

Group C is made up of: Ecuador, the United States, Ukraine, and Nigeria.

The Colombian team is led by Barranquilla’s coach Kelly Peduzzine, who has expressed that her team is ready to compete and fight to make Colombia proud. “These players are already fighters and winners; they only need the crowd’s encouragement and support. We want fans to be with us at each of our games.”

The organizers have arranged for the teams to stay in two hotels in Barranquilla. Nigeria, Ecuador, Brazil, Cameroon, and England will be staying at the American Gold hotel.

Meanwhile, Colombia, Peru, Ukraine, Kenya, Haiti, and the United States will be accommodated at the Windsor hotel.

Members of the World Amputee Football Association will stay at the Barranquilla Plaza Hotel.

Admission to the venues will be completely free, courtesy of the Barranquilla City Hall and the Department of Atlántico. Additionally, the Department of Sports and the Institute of Departmental Sports, are supporting the tournament.

The Colombian team visited Barranquilla’s Junior team on Tuesday at their Adelita de Char training facility.
