Mayor Alejandro Char Chaljub announced the new recreational area of the Gran Malecón is opening this Saturday. Final details are being prepared for its opening. This new area covers over 20,000 square meters of public space.
Mayor Alejandro Char visited the construction site on Wednesday and stated that they are “finalizing details” for its opening.
“This third phase stretches from the beach soccer field to the Shakira statue. There are exercise areas, as well as spaces for children and families to gather. Nearly 20,000 square meters of green space are opening up for Barranquilla and the world,” stated the mayor.
Char also assured that “this space will be even more beautiful than it already is; the Malecón remains the number one icon for Barranquilla residents and Colombians.”
New Spaces
The District announced that the area now includes a children’s playground and three outdoor fitness parks and gym centers, equipped with exercise machines that promote coordination, flexibility, physical endurance, and strength.
The administration specified that the available machines include ellipticals, abdominal benches, parallel bars, chest press machines, and steering wheels, among others. These gyms are freely accessible and designed for adults and seniors.
“Additionally, the immersive connection with green spaces helps reduce stress levels and improve people’s mental health,” emphasized the District Administration. Residents will be able to enjoy the opening of the new section of the Gran Malecón as of this weekend.
