Puerto Colombia will soon have its own tourist attraction: the Malecón del Mar. The idea is to transform Puerto into an internationally renowned destination to boost its economy and provide a top-notch experience for visitors.

One of the projects, the ‘Muelle 1888’, is 90% complete. Muelle 1888 is also known as the International Gastronomic Center. Tourists are excited.

The project will promote environmental protection of a 2.5-hectare Mangrove area, which will buffer the Caribbean Sea; the Sazón Market; and the International Gastronomic Center.

Miramar and Pescadores Beaches

This past Monday, Governor Eduardo Verano inspected the renovation of Miramar and Pescadores Beaches, which will boost tourism and improve the living conditions of the local population.

“We are in the process of building new attractions for Miramar and Pescadores Beach, which we have already restored. These attractions will offer all the amenities for locals and visitors, including food platforms, walking trails, areas for sports such as soccer, volleyball, and beach tennis, a skateboard track, and much more. This is part of the new tourism profile we want to give to Puerto Colombia, aiming to make its activities top-notch,” he declared.

In this regard, he mentioned that the project is 90% complete. The aim is to have it operational by next August.

Meanwhile, Puerto Colombia’s mayor, Plinio Cedeño, also participated in the inspection. “Our single mothers, community members from lower-income strata, and fishermen will now be part of the economic development, gaining opportunities to improve their social welfare through tourism promoted in these spaces. I must highlight that we will support them not only with new spaces but also with special programs where the fishermen’s children can receive 100% scholarships for social programs aimed at furthering their fishing skills,” he commented.

The Community

The opening of ‘Muelle 1888,’ which houses the International Gastronomic Center, has many tourists eagerly awaiting their visit to Puerto Colombia.

Emerson López, from the city of Bucaramanga, noted that tourism in Puerto has evolved significantly. “I’ve been coming here for 10 years, and the tourist offerings keep increasing. Now, with Muelle 1888, the change will be even greater, and I look forward to enjoying it.”

Meanwhile, Javier Rodríguez from Bogotá shared that this is his first time visiting the beaches of Puerto Colombia. “I think they’re doing a good job with these projects because you can find everything here and bring your family to have a good time. I’m eager to come back and see the completed projects,” he expressed.

Completed Projects

Puerto Colombia inaugurated the Malecón del Mar pier and plaza in December 2021.

One of the newly opened features of Puerto Colombia’s Malecón del Mar is the lighthouse or faro. The lighthouse is currently named la Venta de Sueños, or Window of Dreams. Officials inaugurated the lighthouse on December 18, 2023.
