After eight months of continuous work, the official inauguration of the Puerto Colombia lighthouse, or faro, will occur on Monday, December 18th at 7:00 pm. This crystal structure pays tribute to the immigrants who arrived in the country through this municipality. The monument’s current name is Ventana de Sueños.
On the scheduled night of the inauguration, the pinnacle of this majestic monument will emit its first gleam of light. The light can reach as far as 20 nautical miles. Ships transiting between the Caribbean ports at the mouth of the Barranquilla navigable channel known as Bocas de Ceniza will be able to see it.
Tecnoglass emphasized that they built this structure using 120 tons of hot-dip galvanized steel with epoxy paint for corrosion protection. They assembled the metal structure with approximately eight thousand screws, and affixed 25 tons of aluminum to create the floating facade that supports the glass. The project, completed in a record time of eight months, was attributed to the tireless work of 130 workers. Tecnoglass CEO Christian Daes donated this megastructure to the city of Puerto Colombia. This is their third donation, the others being La Ventana al Mundo and La Venta de Campeones.
The lighting system features about 55 thousand LED lights to create luminous effects that permanently alter the character and appearance of the lighthouse. The structure is 70 meters tall.
The Puerto Colombia faro (lighthouse) was designed by brothers James and Alays Ariza of Haba.
