As of November 1, 2023, Canadian tourists will once again be required to pay an entry fee into Colombia. There was previously a fee in place until July 2019.
Migración Colombia has passed Resolution 2676 of 2023, which establishes a charge for Canadian nationals entering the country in reciprocation for the costs incurred due to the imposition of biometric data on Colombian nationals.
The entry fee amounts to $256,000 Colombian pesos ($85 CAD), based on the current exchange rate, and it is payable in Canadian dollars.
Tourists can pay using a credit or debit card during the immigration control process when entering the country at any of the air, sea, river, or land control points authorized by Migración Colombia.
Exceptions:
The resolution also outlines the following exceptions:
- Canadian citizens whose destination for entry and stay in Colombia is the Archipelago of San Andrés, Providencia, and Santa Catalina.
- Canadian citizens under the age of 14 and those over the age of 79.
- Canadian citizens holding a valid Colombian visa, diplomatic agents, consular personnel, official staff, and their dependents, provided they identify themselves with a travel document accrediting their status.
- Members of an international transport crew. This condition must be supported and verified in the General Declaration, the Ship’s Log, the crew list, or equivalent documentation.
Failure to make this payment will result in the denial of entry into Colombian territory, and authorities will issue an order for the individual’s return to their country of departure.
