On Friday, July 12, 2024, the Kingdom of Thailand decided to extend its list of visa-free countries, including Colombia among the beneficiaries. Thailand removed the visa requirement for Colombian citizens.

With this new measure, Thailand aims to boost tourism in the region. Thailand’s authorities confirmed they would again expand the list of visa-exempt countries. This measure aims to promote tourism and encourage longer stays in the region.

For this reason, Traisuree Taisaranakul, the spokeswoman for the Thai Ministry of Interior, announced that Thailand would increase the list of countries whose citizens do not need a visa to enter. The number of countries on this list will rise from 57 to 93.

The new Latin American countries included are Panama, Guatemala, Cuba, Ecuador, Uruguay, Mexico, and Colombia.

According to Taisaranakul, this decision is part of an effort to boost tourism. Starting Monday, July 15, citizens of the newly exempt countries can stay in Thailand for up to 60 days without a visa.

With this decision, Thailand becomes the 85th country to eliminate the visa requirement for Colombian citizens. The list includes nations such as the United Kingdom, Egypt, and the European Union.

Requirements for traveling visa-free to Thailand from Colombia

Despite the visa elimination, Colombians must meet certain requirements to enter Thailand. According to the Colombian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, these are the current requirements:

  1. Valid Passport: The passport must be valid for at least six months from the date of arrival in Thailand.
  2. Vaccination Certificate: A yellow fever vaccination certificate is required.
  3. Activity Documentation: In some cases, immigration authorities may request printed documentation of the planned activities (tickets, reservations, programs, invitation letters, etc.).
  4. Financial Means: Immigration officers do not consider credit cards valid proof for supporting the stay, as they cannot verify the cards’ authenticity or international coverage.

In conclusion, the visa elimination for Colombians wishing to travel to Thailand represents a great opportunity to explore this fascinating Asian destination and experience new cultures.
